Location and Accommodations
The venue will be the Marriot Courtyard and Residence Inn in the heart of downtown Houston. This is a big, fully equipped luxury hotel with:
- two separate buildings, the Residence Inn and the main hotel
- a gym and pool
- a café and restaurants
- a fully equipped business center including computer, printer, and Internet access
Additionally, all rooms are equipped with high-speed wireless Internet connections.
The new Houston Light Rail System stops directly in front of the hotel and connects to the South Central Modern Language Association conference which will be held concurrently at the Warwick Hotel just a few stations to the south.
The room rate is an excellent US$80 per night for a studio with queen sized beds in the Residence Inn, including free breakfast, or double units with two beds in the Courtyard building, with a free continental breakfast available in the conference room.
The official deadline for room reservations is October 3, 2005. However, we strongly recommend that you make your reservations much sooner than that, as October is a busy period for convention events in Houston. Spillover rooms may be available but most will probably be outside the downtown area.
To reserve your room at the conference rate, contact the hotel at (832) 366-1000 [or (832)-336-1600 for a double room]. Be sure to note that you are calling for the special conference rate for the Cormac McCarthy Society. Please note that conference registration does not automatically reserve your hotel room. You must contact the hotel directly and tell them that you will be attending the Cormac McCarthy Society conference in order to claim your special conference room rate of US$80 per night.
Any conference registrations received (not postmarked) by the Society after October 3 will be subject to a US$25 late charge imposed by our obligations to report final numbers to the hotel caterers.
Houston is served by all major US airlines, including American, Delta, United, and US Airways. It also has extensive international direct service and connections.
